Why every Paperless answer cites the section

25 August 2026 · The Paperless team, ACE Advisory

Ask a general chatbot a question about Bangladesh income tax and you will get a confident answer. Sometimes it is right. Sometimes it is a plausible sentence with no law behind it, and nothing about how it reads tells you which one you got.

Paperless takes a different position: an answer about the law is only useful if you can check it against the law. So every answer carries a citation to the specific section of the Income Tax Act 2023, or the SRO or circular, that it was grounded in. The source is one click away, in the original text.

Citations are the honesty mechanism, not a decoration

We are open about this on our How Paperless workspage: retrieval can miss a relevant provision, and AI-generated summaries can misstate a detail. No system built on today’s AI can promise otherwise, and we do not. What we can promise is that you never have to take an answer on faith. If the answer says a rate or a condition, the provision it read is named, and reading it yourself takes seconds.

What this changes in practice

  • A practitioner can quote the section in a filing or an objection, because the section is already in front of them.
  • A taxpayer can hand the citation to their advisor instead of a screenshot of a chatbot.
  • A wrong answer is catchable, and reportable, because the gap between the answer and the source is visible.

This is also why we built Paperless on Bangladesh’s actual regulatory corpus rather than pointing a general model at the internet. You cannot cite what you never read.
